Caught in Their Own Web of Lies

By Linda Irvin-Craig

The U.S. House Oversight and Accountability Committee is now lead by GOP Rep. James Comer, who has already claimed a place of making weird choices about what he sees as needing oversight. Among the recent targets is the new “Disinformation Governance Board” instituted by the Department of Homeland Security.

GOP members feign horror at the idea that a federal department would go about “censoring” what people can say about how the department approaches its mission. If Dems do not take this on with a complete list of how the GOP has planted and supported massive disinformation messages on nearly every front, we need to call them to heel.

Admittedly, we all know that embellishments have long been a staple of political messaging, but the current GOP climate of “truth be damned” makes for political offenses. They cannot even expel Rep. George Santos, who invents a new identity every week, compounded with an inability to do his job in any way that could be considered effective. People in his home district are likely to ask for his salary back, if not worse, when he tries to return there.

Massive disinformation has been a staple of GOP politics for a long time, but magnified greatly under the auspices of their own messengers on the FOX network (not News). It is likely that this fight will consume some time with radically different views on what the word represents, with each side coming to the table with serious finger-pointing. Dems may well have the upper hand with this one. They can likely point with all ten fingers and still not cover the gamut of lies.

Of course, the BIG LIE remains the results of the 2020 election and the subsequent insurrection, incited by the defeated DJT.

Here we can fall back on the deposition of the FOX owner. Rupert Murdoch’s testimony essentially “corroborates that top hosts, including Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Jeanine Pirro and Maria Bartiromo were privately horrified that their network was pushing Donald Trump’s ‘stolen election’ narrative – but went on-air with it anyway.” This is the basis of what the Dominion Voter Machine company asserted in a detailed lawsuit filing against FOX for trying to destroy their future business dealings.

An exasperated Murdoch made a confession that having to tell the truth “under oath” was painful. Bless his poor soul…NOT.
